SIFAV: This is how we are making the industry more sustainable in the long term!

We have been a proud member of the SIFAV (Sustainability Initiative Fruit and Vegetables) sustainability initiative since 2022. The network brings together a wide range of industry players to make it measurably more sustainable – with common goals, regular discussions, and exciting projects. The vision: a more sustainable industry that benefits everyone!
Setting the course for the second half of the decade

SIFAV’s current target period will come to an end at the end of 2025. A few weeks ago, the SIFAV members therefore set their new joint targets. The Roadmap 2030 combines the initiative’s previous strategy with new, refined, and timely priorities across five areas of action. The two-tiered target system – “minimum” (mandatory for all) and “meaningful” (best practice level) – takes into account the diversity of the members and allows priorities to be set where they make the biggest difference.

Port’s Ambition: All five “Meaningful” goals by 2030

At Port International, we are proud to have committed to implementing all five Meaningful goals by 2030. This underscores our commitment to creating positive change across the industry.

What does that mean specifically?
  • Regenerative agriculture: Implementing joint projects that introduce best practices for soil health and promote biodiversity.
  • Water stewardship: Participating in collective action projects in high-risk catchment areas to secure water availability and quality in the long term.
  • Climate protection: Demonstrate concrete measures and progress toward our own science-based reduction target by 2030 – across Scope 1–3, with third-party verified emissions inventory.
  • Living wages: Verify living wage gap calculations by 2030 and begin closing the gap – for a newly defined product or a new specific region beyond bananas.
  • Working conditions: Strengthen social dialogue in fruit and vegetable supply chains by 2030, including through the introduction of an effective, accessible grievance mechanism.
Our commitment as a strong foundation

In addition to the ongoing commitment of our sustainability team at SIFAV, our commitment extends to the executive suite: our managing director Karlsson Port has been a member of the SIFAV Steering Committee for over a year, participates in the initiative’s central decision-making processes, and contributes a wealth of exciting experience thanks to his many years of expertise.

SIFAV as an important step toward a sustainable future

At SIFAV, cooperative sustainability becomes a reality. Members pool their strengths and experience to find joint solutions to common challenges. We look forward to continuing on this path as an active SIFAV member—with concrete projects, joint discussions, and measurable results. Join the movement: Together, we will take sustainability in the industry to the next level.
