Electric cars and the reduction of our CO2 emissions
The transportation sector significantly contributes to air pollution and, consequently, to global climate change. A whopping 20 % of CO2 emissions in Germany stem from transportation. In our company, business-related combustion vehicles even accounted for up to 30 % of the calculated emissions (Scope 1 & 2) in 2021.
Therefore, transitioning our vehicle fleet seemed like the right step to achieve our goal of reducing company emissions by 50 % by 2030 compared to 2018.
Since 2021, we’ve been working on reducing the environmental impact of our fleet by replacing combustion vehicles with electric cars. Now we are proud to announce that our efforts have borne fruit – the share of electric vehicles has increased from 20 % in 2021 to a total of 41 % in 2022. But our commitment to climate protection does not end here.
We have set ourselves the ambitious goal of switching our vehicle fleet completely to electric cars by 2030. This is what drives us and motivates us to take further steps towards sustainable mobility.
Our own charging stations as the key to success
Transitioning to electric vehicles comes with several challenges. One of the significant hurdles is the provision of a reliable and accessible charging infrastructure for our electric cars. Unfortunately, public charging stations are very limited or often occupied at our Hamburg location.
Therefore, to ensure an ideal charging infrastructure, we have chosen to install four company-owned charging stations. They are located in close proximity to our office, offering our employees the opportunity to charge their company cars during working hours. The charging stations are exclusively powered by green electricity, which ensures that our electric company vehicles are charged with emission-free power at all times.
Conclusion
The electrification of our company fleet is a crucial step on our path towards a more sustainable future.
